A Place for both of us is a speculative exploration within the field of Multispecies Design.
It investigates what might happen if humans truly listened to invisible microorganisms and began to consider them as co inhabitants rather than threats. Through imagined conversations and research, the work questions our perception of microbes and highlights their essential role in sustaining life.
The project proposes a digital, theoretically possible space made entirely of rubber ducks, imagining a potential symbiosis between humans and bacteria.
The rubber duck functions as a shared object: for humans, it is emotionally charged and nostalgic; for bacteria, it provides ideal living conditions in warm, moist bathroom environments.
The work challenges the predominantly negative perception of bacteria and highlights their fundamental importance to life. Rather than aiming for practical implementation, it operates as a conceptual scenario that raises awareness of the invisible organisms we coexist with and encourages a reconsideration of interspecies relationships.
My project was part of the exhibition project “Talk to Me” at my university and was presented during the Cologne Passagen Design Festival 2025.
